·Our newly implemented Concessions program was a great success!.Thank you Catherine Kephart for a job well done!Mrs. Kephart created a business plan and provided start up monies to purchase equipment and the foods offered for sale.Shark Shack was operated on a regular basis with slushies/smoothies, sno-cones, popcorn and cup of noodles – just to name a few of her regular menu items. Malek’s generously provided a $25 gift certificates each month forthe Shark Shark monthly drawing for those volunteers who worked at least 4 hours that month.Through her hard work and dedication, the club was able to purchase the ice maker from the proceeds earned. We also thank all those who volunteered in the Shark Shack. ·New color scheme around pool to match the slide.Club was able to purchase new umbrellas. ·Pine trees by guard shack will be removed as roots are damaging sewer lines.Thank you to Maintanance and Holly Rennert for trying to clear pipes.A plumber was able to diagnose problem and the tree removal will further correct from future problems roots may cause. ·Pool will soon need a white coat and tennis courts need to be addressed.Membership needs to consider options to cover costs for these upcoming expenditures. ·This morning was indicative of our 40 plus year old pool’s needs. The pump motor was repaired.Joe Wolf, member, will rewire pump room. ·This year had a successful membership drive and our teams generated revenue by staffing Shark Shack during meets, etc. ·3 incidents of vandalism this summer (items thrown into pool, spray paint, etc.)Thanks to Maintenance and their families for their personal time spent cleaning up and responsiveness.Orange Hunt Swim and Tennis Club is a volunteer based organization. ·60 plus families donated towards slide.Pete Schuck, vice-president, wrote and submitted a Neighborhood Enhancement Partnership Program grant.Fairfax County awarded OHSTC $2,500 towards new slide. We can attribute the significant increase in membership to our slide.
Treasurer’s Report Holly Rennert, Treasurer, reportedan unanticipated increase in expendituresthat included concrete, tree removal, and county permit costs. The good news is that our increase in membership will help offset these costs. Our budget projected a deficit of $5,000, but we now project a $7,000-$8,000 loss due to these unexpected expenses. Swim Team Report Anne McEvoy, Swim Chair, reported 148 children participated in our Sharks Swim Team this year. The Sharks competed in Division 7 and ended the season at 2 and 3.“The kids had a blast…” with the outings to bowling, ice skating, Pump It Up, and this year’s Midnight Splash. Social Report Sheila Chewning reported our TGIF’s were catered by various local restaurants – quality food at a low price.Social’s goal was to build a sense of community with these TGIF’s and other social events (i.e. movie night, Casino Night, etc.) Maintenance Report Beau Rennert reported an interesting year with the failure of equipment, and installation of new slide.During the off season, maintenance will be working on water for slide.A Fall Maintenance Day will be scheduled to complete winterization needs, and geta jump start to the 2012 season (i.e. concrete and leaf removal). In addition, volunteers are needed to excavate for sewer line by fence and by back fence for foot wash pipe.Watch out for more information in upcoming newsletters – we need your help!
